Avon Scows, Bembridge Scows, Chichester Scows, Keyhaven
Scows, Lymington River Scows, Palace Quay Scows, West Wight Scows and many
traditional wooden Scows as well - all derived from the same basic design but
each with significant differences. To help celebrate its 21st Anniversary the
Lymington River Scow Class Association has joined with the RLymYC to organise a
Rally to get as many different examples to sail together and to provide the
opportunity for owners to compare notes, even swap boats.
We've picked a week-end in July 2018 with neap tides and all
Scow owners, whatever the age or design of their craft, are invited to take
part. Bring your Scow to the Royal Lymington YC for 4 short races, two on the
Saturday afternoon and two on the Sunday morning. We're also planning a
seamanship event and a special kind of Pursuit race plus a Concours d'Elegance
with an award for the best presented boat.
Visitors will be temporary Members of the RLymYC for the
week-end and will have full use of the bar and restaurant. There will be tea
and doughnuts when competitors return after the Saturday racing, awards for the
day's winners and then an informal supper in the Clubhouse later on. Sailing
will finish around 1300 on the Sunday along with a Paella BBQ and more awards.
If coming from the Island, RLymYC RIB's can provide safety
cover (or a tow) to and from Yarmouth. Visiting scows may lie afloat on RLymYC
pontoons in perfect safety or the Club can provide trolleys by prior
arrangement. Some overnight accommodation is available with Club Members.
